Celebrating A History Of Caring - Nurses Week 2010
Driven by compassion and caring, the men and women who make up the nursing profession are called upon time and time again to care for the sick and injured. Their efforts and contributions to society can be celebrated during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, and National Nursing Assistants Week, June 10-17. From the local hospital and doctor's offices to the tragedy of Haiti and the war zones of Afghanistan, nursing staff treat patients as well as provide hope.

Nurses Week is held from May 6th, which is National Nurses Day to May 12th, which is Florence Nightingale's birthday. Ending on the birthday of the founder of modern nursing, is a homage to the history of the profession. In today's society people talk about healthcare reform and debate our health insurance practices. More effort should be placed upon the recognition of the healthcare staff, specifically nurses, who are not always compensated in proportion to their contribution. Nurses Week is a perfect time to show appreciation to nurses. By having a small luncheon or dinner to present awards and give out unique gifts for nurses, travel mug or tote bag personalized with a verse of thank you can become a cherished trophy.

Celebrating National Nursing Assistants Week is a way to recognize the Certified Nursing Assistants and Nursing Assistants, whose efforts sometimes get overshadowed by the rest of the healthcare staff. Rewarding Nursing Assistants with gifts of appreciation and praise, serves to motivate this group of dedicated healthcare employees.
